The CAR is Antonini's response to the Italian fire department's long-held desire to develop a reliable multi-purpose tool that contains all the necessary functions for critical operations after car accidents. Knife designer Tommaso Rumici, who has already collaborated with renowned knife brands around the world, was brought on board to make it a reality. The rescue knife contains numerous tools useful for freeing the occupants in crashed vehicles or for preparing to cut open the car body. The main part is a lever made of hardened Nitro-B steel, which is equipped with a chisel tip complete with a nail puller, as known from chisels. It is used to lift or remove the plastic panels of the passenger compartment. On the top of the lever there is a belt cutter. On the opposite side are two wrenches (10 and 13 millimeters) used to loosen battery clamps, and a carbide glass breaker used to break side windows or cut a hole for the saw in a laminated windshield. Under the yellow G10 handle are two blades: the main one is for cutting through seats and upholstery and exposes airbag system components, and the other is a special saw for laminated safety glass. Both blades are equipped with a Button Lock latch that works in both the rest and working positions. On the G10 handle and on the back of the main body are luminescent decals that increase the tool's visibility in low-light conditions. Also on the back is a laser-engraved ruler that is useful when planning cuts on the body. The CAR multi-purpose tool is sized to fit in the breast pockets of the duty jacket. The hole in the center of the case makes the rescue tool compatible with the "Gear Keeper" restraint systems marketed by Antonini.
